Elijah Baker

Communications, Engagement and Special Projects Coordinator at the Alabama Community College System

As part of managing internal communications and special projects, Elijah Baker produces a quarterly print newsletter for legislators, business leaders and non-profit executives across the state. He also hosts, writes and produces a monthly podcast – Access Granted – which highlights the path real life residents take to fulfill their mission through Alabama’s community and technical colleges. Prior to living in Montgomery, Baker had an opportunity to collaborate with When We All Vote in establishing a student-led initiative at Drake State Community and Technical College. The program focused on educating Huntsville’s youth and residents about the significance of their vote during the 2022 general election cycle. He recently became a member of PRCA Montgomery to become a stronger communication practitioner and enjoys the enriching activities through the Mayor’s Young Professional Council (MYPC).

Key to Success: Consistency

Guilty Pleasure: Food. I think about it too much!

Childhood Aspirations: I wanted to sing, but I can’t hold a single note, so I have sold-out concerts in my mind.

First Job: The Home Depot

Best Advice: “Kindness goes a long way.”

Biggest Influence Personally & Professionally: President Dr. Patricia Sims at Drake State Community and Technical College in Huntsville has been one of the most significant influencers on my career. During a time when I was emotionally at my lowest, she uplifted me and provided me with the tools to greatly expand my roles of responsibility as a young professional at the college. I will forever and always appreciate the encouragement and leadership of Dr. Sims, as she prepared me for the career path I am on today.
