Austin Smith serves as an Environmental Engineer at Jacobs Engineering, a role he assumed in September 2022. As a Process Mechanical Engineer, Smith designs wastewater treatment facilities and amenities for the Montgomery Water Works and Sanitary Sewer Board, while also expanding his portfolio into other industries.

Smith’s proudest career accomplishment is working with the Navajo Nation in Arizona, in partnership with the Environmental Protection Agency, to improve access to clean drinking water in underserved communities. This work allowed him to collaborate across industries and make a meaningful impact on public health and infrastructure.

In his community, Smith is actively involved through his church, Morning Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church, and his lifelong passion for tennis. A former Division I tennis player, he serves as Assistant Coach for Brewbaker Technology Magnet High School’s varsity teams, mentors underserved youth through One Community NJTL, and has led tennis clinics and literacy initiatives for young professionals. He has also served on the Mayor’s Young Professionals Council and the Montgomery County School Board Transition Team.

Key to Success: Resilience. Smith credits his ability to overcome challenges, learn from setbacks, and push beyond underestimation as central to his achievements.

Guilty Pleasure: Candy, particularly Haribo Gummy Bears, and red velvet cake.
