Mitchell Newell serves as Vice President and Estimator at W.S. Newell & Sons, Inc. He officially began working full-time with the company in May 2016 after graduating college, though his experience with the business started much earlier through summers spent working as a laborer in the field and in the equipment shop. In his current role, Newell is responsible for estimating and project management, contributing to projects from planning through execution.
One of Newell’s greatest career highlights is the relationships he has built throughout the industry. He values the opportunity to meet and communicate with a wide range of individuals on a daily basis, noting that those connections are one of the most rewarding aspects of his work. Outside of the office, he is an active member of First Baptist Church in Montgomery.
Key to Success: First and foremost, my faith. That is the one constant in my life through ups and downs, which keeps me grounded in any situation I face. The other is treating everyone equally and with respect.
Guilty Pleasure: Hunting and fishing. They don’t consume my thoughts as much as they did before I had kids, but they are still my passion when I have free time.
Childhood Aspirations: I always dreamed of being in the hunting industry, but now I am glad I just do it for fun instead of work.
First Job: Working on our cattle farm.
Best Advice: To listen more than you talk.
Biggest Influence Personally & Professionally: My dad has been the biggest influence on my personal and career growth by pushing me and always saying, “I don’t want to hear the word ‘can’t.’” He has involved me in jobs from operating tractors to crunching numbers for bids, showing me every aspect of our business that leads to our company’s success. My wife, Sydney, has also been a big influence on my personal—but mostly my spiritual—growth by keeping me accountable and level-headed.
